We are proud to offer compassionate, efficient care to patients visiting our locations in Fairburn, Lovejoy, Hiram, and Carollton.

What is the Difference Between Invisalign® and Braces?

Invisalign® vs Braces in Atlanta & Marietta, GABoth braces and Invisalign® are effective orthodontic treatments for correcting teeth and jaw alignment. However, Invisalign® uses clear, removable aligners, while braces use wires and metal that is cemented onto the teeth. Invisalign® tends to be a more comfortable treatment because it lacks the metal pieces that can poke or irritate the inside of the mouth. Invisalign® is also an easier adjustment for most patients because the aligners can be removed to eat, brush and floss.

How Does the Cost of Treatment Differ?

On average, the cost of Invisalign® will be no more than $125 a month for kids and no more than $145 a month for adults. However, the cost of both braces and Invisalign® will vary depending on a patient’s unique treatment needs. The cost of either treatment can be made more affordable with dental insurance or dental financing. How Does Treatment Differ?

The Invisalign® treatment involves the use of clear aligners, which are custom-fit using 3D imaging technology. Throughout treatment, you will wear multiple sets of aligners, swapping them out every few weeks as your teeth shift into their proper location. The braces treatment uses metal brackets that are cemented individually onto each tooth. A metal wire, called an archwire, is attached to these brackets, which applies pressure to the teeth to move them into their correct position. Throughout treatment, you will return to your orthodontist to have your braces tightened and adjusted as your teeth shift. The Invisalign® treatment typically requires fewer and shorter orthodontist visits since there are no adjustments required; you simply swap out your aligners for a new set when it is time.

How Does Treatment Length Differ?

The total average treatment time is similar for both braces and Invisalign®. The position of your teeth at the beginning of your treatment will determine how long your treatment will last. During your consultation, Dr. Venn will provide you with an estimate after developing a personalized treatment plan.

How Will These Treatments Affect My Life?

Orthodontic treatment can be a bit of an adjustment for some patients. With braces, patients will have to make sure they avoid certain foods that can damage their braces. Food can also get caught quite easily in braces, so patients will have to be more thorough while brushing and flossing. Additionally, while patients will be able to perform all of their usual activities, it is important to wear a mouth guard during sports to protect the mouth and the braces from damage. With Invisalign®, patients should remove their aligners when eating, brushing, and flossing. As a result, Invisalign® will have minimal impact on your dietary and hygiene habits.

Which Treatment is Best for Me?

Invisalign® may be a more ideal treatment for patients who are concerned about the cosmetic appearance of braces. However, the use of Invisalign® aligners requires more discipline, so it may not be suitable for younger patients. Braces, on the other hand, may be a suitable treatment for patients with more severe misalignment issues in the teeth or jaw. Dr. Venn can help you determine the best treatment option for you during your initial consultation.
