Orthodontic treatment can fix a variety of common bite problems. Some of the most common bite problems are as follows:
In an openbite, the upper and lower front teeth do not overlap at all. There will be a noticeable gab between the top and bottom teeth.
Causes: improper jaw growth, bad oral habits – such as finger sucking
If your lower teeth don’t extend forward enough, it may cause the upper teeth to appear to be too far forward. This bite problem is known as an overjet, and can impact both the appearance and function of your teeth.
Causes: incorrect moral alignment, excessive finger sucking, imbalance of the upper and lower jaws.
In an underbite, you’ll find that both your lower jaw and teeth extend out too far. This causes the upper teeth and jaw to actually site inside the lower.
Causes: improper jaw growth – the lower grows too much, and the upper doesn’t develop enough.
With an overbite, your upper front teeth may extend out and over the bottom front teeth. With a severe overbite, your lower front teeth may actually bite into the roof of your mouth.
There are of course other additional common bite problems, such as crowding of the teeth, as well as gaps or spacing in teeth. At Atlanta Smile Studio, we offer a variety of treatment options to help correct these problems. Some common orthodontics treatment options are metal braces, clear braces, and Invisalign.
